Short term rentals, also known as VRBO or AirBnb are NOT legal.
If the Zoning District permits transient rentals, the building would need to be inspected as a hotel or motel under the IBC (Commercial Building Code). All safety measures required for a hotel or motel would be necessary.

All municipalities require a signed written complaint and there is a chance the complainant may need to testify in court
Sewage Permit or if public sewer, a letter indicating they will allow a connection. (Required for any structure with a bathroom and/or sink).
An HOP permit allows the installation of a driveway. For any State Road, PennDot will issue the permit. We issue the HOP for Gregg, Miles, Penn, & Walker Townships, Milesburg, Unionville & Millheim Boroughs. For other municipalities contact the municipal office directly. Site Distance Guide The Roadmaster issues the HOP in Gregg and Benner Townships, contact the Township Office directly for assistance with an HOP.
Benner Twp, Huston Twp, Milesburg Borough, Unionville Borough, Potter Twp, Walker Twp, Worth Twp, all require a separate Zoning Permit issued prior to issuance of a Building Permit. We issue the Zoning Permits for Gregg, Miles, Potter, Worth Townships and Milesburg, Unionville & Millheim Boroughs. For other municipalities contact the municipal office directly or the Zoning Officer listed below.
A building permit is required in most municipalities. The building permit is issued by Penns Valley Code Enforcement Agency.
Most municipalities require 2 sets of plans for any structure larger than 1,000 square feet.
You must obtain an address for all commercial and residential buildings. There is an exemption for accessory structures. Centre County 911 will assign an address. Email at addressing@centrecountypa.gov

An address will not be issued without a valid permit application.
Ensures that the structure you want to build is permitted in the Zoning District where you wish to build. Also ensure setback requirements are met. (Currently Miles and Penn Township do not have a Zoning Ordinance and construction follows the Centre County SALDO).

Gregg Township has a Parkland Dedication fee of $1,250 payable to the Township directly prior to issuance of a building permit for new residential construction. Proof of payment is required prior to issuance of a building permit
Huston Township does have Zoning. A Zoning Permit is required from the Zoning Officer before a Building Permit can be issued.

Minimum 2 sets of building plans are required (Benner Twp & Milesburg Boro require 3 sets of plans) for any structure over 1,000 square feet. (includes basements & attics). Plans are not always required for accessory structures less than 1,000 square feet.
For all Construction other than an accessory building, an address is required, if needed our office will facilitate you obtaining an address.
Every building other than an accessory building is required to have an address. To obtain an address you are required to call Centre County 911 (phone 814-355-6800) or email addressing@centrecountypa.gov
within 72 hours of being assigned a permit number.
